Would it not be great to be able to live without any laws, follow your temptations? be that sexual, money, power?
This question continues to bother me so long as I have been living in London. My very conservative upbringing prevented me from thinking freely, which changed 27 yrs ago when I moved from Pakistan to UK.
Once when I was driving a cab in London during my university days, I overheard one of my young passenger talking about her cousin that how much she fancied him, and what she would not do to consumate her love for him. I asked her why not tell him that and see what he does? She was shocked and said but he was my cousin just like a brother, totally ouit of bounds for her.
Then I knew which I did not know before that in this culture cousins are out. Very unlike ours where there is no inhibitions on loving and marrying your cousins.
Opposite is probably also true that some temptations are best not followed, another encounter in similar circumstances with another passenger revealed when I was driving a very narrow car Ford Orion with 4 pasengers All females. As I changed gears my hand touched my passenger' legs couple of times(within a short miniskirt) for which I apologised to her. She said why you keep apologising for such a minor thing? I said I was brought up with these values, respecting woman's body and that with two people of opposite sex alone third is always Devil.
Then I asked her a question why are you keep lowering your miniskirt by stretching it down when you could wear a longer length skirt, Isn't that is because women are naturally programmed to cover themselves? She said nothing.
On a return journey when I picked her up from night club early in the morning, she said what I said earlier made her think about her younger years when she was abused by her uncle for long period of time. It began when she was alone and wore bikini in the house and finding her alone he grabbed her.
It deeply upsetted me hearing her story. I tried to look at this from his side, I could not imagine myself following that temptation so I could not.
Rest next time.
